You should be able to play MW3 online still but there are connectivity issues when using certain SPRX menus such as cracked variants of Reflex or Paradox. I believe this issue is server-based and became more prevalent with lots of gamers when Playstation introduced the ability to change your old username from the PS4. MW2 has been unable to save my stats for a couple of years now.
